The year went way too fast for my liking, but Scout’s First Birthday finally arrived! We had a fun time with around 25 people, lots of kids running around screaming and destroying the house, and lots of visiting with family and friends.
Here is my first and probably last attempt at a tiered cake. They take lots of time! I know fondant would have given it a more smooth finish, but I can’t stand the taste of fondant. I made pure buttercream frosting for Scout’s Cake!
Here it is….The Accidental New Me! If it weren’t for those mice, I’d still be blonde!
I’ve been platinum before, but it wasn’t as exciting this time around. It’s actually toned down quite a bit in the past week! Do I look 95 here or what?
The snack table!
Balloons for the kids to take home.
I did a timeline of photos from each month from February 2009 thru February 2010.
My handsome little man!
Popcorn!
Everyone got a this photo of Scout to take home.
Inside these bags are cupcakes that everyone got to take home.
I put Scout’s initials on top of the cake.
Scout’s smash cake!
My dad and Scout. Scout loves his Papa. Or is it the glasses?
My infamous mom and Scout!
Helping Scout start his cake.
Going for it.
The first bite!
In this picture he looks like my dad when my dad was little.
Digging in.
Lovely!
Each layer was a different color. I didn’t do flavors – it was just a white cake made from scratch (from Martha Stewart’s website), and it was yummy!
Some of the girls eating.
Scout and Hubby.
Taking a little walk.
Some of the kids at the party.
Opening gifts. This was a DQ cup with a gift card in it. You all know how much my Bubba likes his ice cream – specifically Oreo Blizzards.
Taking a breather.
Afterwards. It was a very fun day for all of us! I’m glad we were able to share it with our family and friends! He received lots of cool gifts that he actually plays with. Bella never played with her toys. It took her 3 years to play with anything :o)
So, I know the hair may be too dramatic of a change for some of you. Shoot- it was for me and I was platinum for a year and a half. But, that was 15 years ago. I realized that my sense of adventure has diminished and at 34 I’m not that into the platinum look on me – accidental or not. I will leave it for a little bit and then I’m going to go through and low light it with a dark blonde. Looks like that may be another interesting post too! Hopefully I will not be trying to catch mice when I do that!
Thanks for coming by to see Scout’s little party. It was very simple, but we had fun! Have a beautiful day my lovely bloggy friends!

I must admit I laughed out loud when I saw the first pic of your hair!! :) It looks good, it just shocked me! haha :)
Love all the stuff you did for Scouts party! The cake is amazing and I love the pics on the mantle.

That looks like a great party! So much planning! I'm just trying to figure out what I'm going to do for her birthday now...
you did a great job on his birthday! everything was adorable! even your hair! :)
Awww, you did a GREAT job on Scout's 1st bday party. The cake turned out fantastic... I can't even imagine the hours you put into it. I made a sheet cake once for Bubba and it was an ordeal.
I LOVE baby cake pics. I can't wait to see if Baby Bub will dig in or care less! Lil' Bub went head first and took a bite. Cracks me up every time I look at the pic.
WHOA on the hair! I was expecting shocking and I was still shocked! You can pull it off, though. I think you look great!
Awhh! So cute! I want my kids first birthday party to be like your!! So cute.
Like Brandi, I think you can pull off the hair color too. I am still lovin' the cut! It is rockin' girl!
The party looks great. I cringed at the after shots. Don't ya hate when you clean for everyone to come over and then you have to clean again when they leave? Ugh.
I love the Dairy Queen giftcard, that is awesome and I may be stealing that idea!
Well the party and the hair turned out great. I love the cut and if I could go blonde I would. Actually hubs wants me to go red red.
So glad the party went well. I love the time line picture idea. Super cute.
Did you throw the party the day before the maid comes? LOL
Girl! You are talented... love the picture timeline idea...love the idea of giving the pictures away to family and friends...love the cake, for it was too cute...love the popcorn idea, for who doesn't like popcorn and I even love your hair.
Great pictures!
Kari! The birthday party looked great! I know all the details can be a lot of work, but doesn't it just pay off on all those photos?? I also did a different colored layer cake - but no matter how much coloring I added... they just weren't rich colors. I too used the white mix, I want orange and blue. I got a warm yellow and a lite blue (disappointed me).
Great grab bags too!!
Wow. What a fun party. I loved your cake and smash cake. All the decorations and gift bags and even your pics of Scout are so colorful and festive.
Your hair really is platinum. It's not horrible. In California it is kinda the norm. And hey, from platinum you are only one more step away from going pink or blue. Just sayin'.
What a cute party!! I LOVE the cake!
You did a FABULOUS job on the cake! It's so beautiful! Kinda makes me want to do something like that for Evan's 2nd birthday in May! Good job!
I love all the decorations and goodies! These pictures will be treasured for years to come!
First off, happy 1st birthday to Mr. Scout! He's growing up so fast! Secondly, I'm loving the blonde hair on you, it's such a fun color! You only live once, so why the heck not try platinum right?! : )
Sounds like a great day. Happy Birthday big boy.
I love the party pic's. You did such a great job on everything, the cake is AWESOME!!! I am going to attempt to make a very simple cake for Gracyn's 6th birthday in a couple of weeks. How do you add the color to the cake? Just food coloring?
Looks like you guys had an awesome party! Good job on making the cake all by yourself. I'm not brave enough to attempt making layered cakes like that myself!
Happy birthday to Scout!
CUTE CUTE hair! And what a fun party. Looks like everyone had a blast. Great job on the bright colorful cake. Happy Birthday Scout!
I love your hair! You look fabulous as a platinum blonde!!
Happy Birthday to Scout, too. I am in love with that cake. You made that? I'm seriously impressed!
Kari! The party turned out so great! The cake is amazing. I love the pic with Scout sitting on your lap crossing his feet!
I think your hair looks fabulous!
It's been so long since I've visited, but what a wonderful post to visit on! A gazillion gorgeous, colorful, fun pictures!!! You look gorgeous! I love your hair. Your kids are adorable - growing up so much. Your case was awesome! Good job! The party looked like a ton of work but a ton of fun too.
So nice to visit. I've missed you.

Simply superb!!
What a wonderful and super colorful party. I so wish I would have been there to have loads of fun and yummy goodies galore.
Loved every picture just like always :)
The birthday baby and his mum were the show stealer for sure :)
Cheers!!
That is one awesome party - the cake is awesome, those favors are awesome, your photo timeline is awesome - I think I'm going to steal some of these ideas for my kids' next b-day party - hope you don't mind! :)
Looks like the party was a huge hit!! The cake looked delicious! I love your hair, you are one hot mama!
That cake is so awesome and it looks very yummy! Good choice with the buttercream. I don't like fondant either!!
Wow, what a change with your hair! Darn mice! Let's hope the next highlighting attempt doesn't end the same way. lol You look great in any color!
Things I love:
* Pics of your sweet fam
* Bright smiles
* Awesome photos (you are gifted!)
* Your HOT hair
* All of the adorableness that is you
What a great party!
There is nothing wrong with a simple birthday party! What matters is that you enjoyed time with your new 1 year old and family and that you laughed and loved that day!
Also, you don't look like a 95 year old woman... maybe 92! ;-)
