Sort of.
Tomorrow, May 5th, is my birthday.
I will be 35.
I’m not a person who has a problem on birthdays as the numbers get higher. I think I’m still young and have many, many, many more years left on this earth.
This was me on my 30th birthday 5 years ago – May 5, 2005. I was 32 weeks pregnant with Bella!![]()
I will say this though:
The first 17 years of my life took about 1,000 times longer than the last 17 years of my life. Seriously. From birth to 17 and graduation from high school – toooook fffoooorrreeevvverrrr!
Seventeen to 34 – zip – just like that.
You always hear people say that they feel more comfortable with themselves in their mid-thirties heading on into their forties and beyond. I completely agree. I’m more secure. More confident. More happy. More aware. More wise. How could life NOT be better when you are no longer in those ‘teenage, know-it-all’ years or those ‘I’m in my twenties and invincible’ years? And believe me, I had those!
Me and Bella on my 31st birthday – May 5, 2006. It snowed that day.
As you get older, you should get to a point where you are looking at life differently and then the choices and decisions you make should change to line up with that. Life is precious and valuable. There is purpose to our lives on earth. There are people’s lives we should be touching in a positive and great way. We shouldn’t waste time or our life on meaningless things. And we should NEVER take for granted our time on this earth.
Me and Bella on my 32nd birthday – May 5, 2007.
We found out this morning that my brother in law’s best friend was shot and killed over the weekend. He was in the front passenger seat of a car and someone came up beside them and fired 24 rounds into the car – three shots hit his friend, and he died. He was only 22. I don’t know all that led up to that, but none the less, it’s very sad and tragic. I only mention this because this is how fragile life is. His death was unnecessary and uncalled for and he doesn’t get the opportunity to get married, have children or grandchildren. He no longer has the opportunity to grow old with someone – to make memories, to live life.
This was me and Bella on my 33rd birthday, May 5, 2008.
This is why I treasure each birthday I get to celebrate. I’ve learned to look at life differently and live it to it’s fullest.
live.on.purpose.
I’m not getting caught up on numbers. It’s my choice how I perceive getting older. Our society has made it into something horrible and to be shunned. I say BRING IT ON! It only gets better from here!
So, tomorrow the big 35 will greet me and I’m perfectly at peace with that! It will be a great day! I’m looking forward to what this next year holds for me.
Me and my friend, Mandy, on May 7, 2009 – 34 years old. Mandy and I share the same birthday – though she is 4 years younger than me!
Oh, and last weekend Hubby threw a surprise birthday get together for me that completely took me by surprise. Seriously, I was clueless – which is not normal. But, I’m also a mom who hasn’t slept in 5 years, so I might be off a little, if you know what I mean. It was great and I had fun!
Well, off to work on some meal planning for my pro-bono client. I have lots on my mind to post about this week, so I’d better get some other stuff done so I can get to it!
See you all tomorrow! I wonder if I’ll look any different?

So exciting! You have such a great attitude, I hope I can face each new year with the same optimism!
You remind me of my friend at work, she had this whole BRING IT ON attitude with 30 and it amazed me because everyone is always so upset to turn 30. I really hope I feel the same way you do and she did about getting older. I am all for feeling more secure! :-)
