Dear Self,
I like to think that you are a pretty intelligent human being. Sometimes it’s hard to see that on days like yesterday. Please stop making yourself look like you don’t use your brain. Self, Thank You Very Much.
Dear Mile High Sun,
Yes, I know you are 5,280 miles closer to me than those who live at sea level, but could you please be gentle when you kiss me. Sun, Thank You Very Much.
Dear Sunblock,
For years I abhorred you because in all my study, you are more dangerous than good for my skin. No, I don’t want to slather PABA all over me. No, I don’t want to rub hormones into my skin or my children’s skin. No, I don’t want to apply you 500 times a day with a list of chemicals that long on the ingredient list. Sunblock, Thank You Very Much.
Dear Wonderful, Healthy Sunscreen,
I finally found a brand of sunscreen that is amazing and not toxic or dangerous to me or my children’s bodies. I also have recently found an amazing, natural, locally made sunscreen that I can finally apply to my face without it irritating it to no end and causing me to look like a teenager covered in acne. But, dear wonderful, healthy sunscreen – you only work when I take you out of the bag and apply you. Because of my laziness yesterday, you went untouched and unused. Your benefits were rendered useless to my skin. Sunscreen, Thank You Very Much.
Dear Self (again),
When you are looking through your closet and picking out clothes to wear for your afternoon at the park with friends, in the Mile High city with the Mile High sun 5,280 miles closer to me than at sea level, knowing you’ll be too lazy to apply your healthy, amazing sunscreen – when you find that tank top and shirt and your intelligent mind chimes in and says, “Self, if you get a farmer’s tan today – those lines will not work with your new swimsuit that you have to wear in a couple weeks – pick something different.” Then, Self. Please listen. Since you did not, you now have to look like a fool with your new farmer’s ‘burn’ while you wear your cute, pink tankini swimsuit you went to great lengths to buy. Self, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
“Summer afternoon - summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.”

Ouchy!!!! We have been applying sunscreen like crazy over here, between the girls' field trips to the zoo with computer camp, and Kaylee's outdoor party.......we have recital rehearsals today and tomorrow, and the real recital on Saturday and I didn't want them being burnt!! We learned our lesson after they went to the wave pool with school (and I gave them the responsibility to put sunscreen on)....which never happened and they were super red!! I hate putting sunscreen on them though! It's so yucky!
Oh goodness!!! That looks like it hurts! Hope it tans quickly!
On another note, I'm going to email you about the oil spill/swagbucks...
Thanks for the anniversary wishes, and congratulations on your 10! I love the new blog you started with Brandi - such a great idea!
It's fun to find another CO mtn gal blogger - I burned myself planting a garden this weekend. I will certainly be back.
Hmmm... that's an interesting look. Ouch!!! ;)
Oops! I have a very similar farmer tan! Just a little bit funny! I have been wondering about sunscreen lately (probably because of you) and whether or not the chemicals are worse for us than the sun. I would love to know about the non toxic kind!
Oops, ouch!! I burn, burn, burn, so no matter what, I HAVE to apply sunscreen, otherwise, within 10 mins of being outside, I would look like your back.
I'd love to hear about this "healthy" sunscreen!
Thanks for linking up!
Ouch HATE sunburns! Loved your TYVM post!
Ouch! Poor thing!
Oh my goodness Kari, that looks so painful! I hope you have some Aloe Vera to put on it.
Your sunburn looks like the one I got last summer!
Ouch! Not fun. I was hoping you were going to name the non-toxic sunscreen for us. Tease!
Oh my, it was hot there wasn't it? I totaaly feel for ya. I've been there a million times thinking that I could eventually tan instead of burn. Nope, I burn everytime!
OUch and please share that sunscreen. I would love to get us some of that.

Owwww. Boy do I know what thats like. Seems to me like no matter how hard you try you'll end up with some sort of tan line you're not happy with!
Don't you just love sleeping with a sunburn. Yeah, me neither. But, it is always my back that seems to sport that red glow.
