My Cool Factor Just Went Down A Notch

Okay, maybe two.

Do you ever have those moments when you think to yourself:

“Five years ago I never would have seen myself HERE!”

Well, that’s the story of my life.  It always pans out a little differently then I expected.

Now that statement rings true again.

Get the picture, here…

I was probably the biggest loather of minivans.  Yes, I said it.  I loathed them.  How they looked.  The crazy soccer moms that drive them – going 150 mph down the road like they were on the Autobahn and don’t have to abide by any traffic signs or laws.  You know who you are.

Minivans signify ‘stay at home mom’

Not that it’s a bad thing, because I.AM.ONE.

But…

You know.  A minivan.  How uncool.  How suburban-ish.  How boring.

(Hey, I’m just being honest here!)

I’d much rather drive one of these:

I mean, seriously.

Driving one of these I have to make sure I’m looking good when I leave the house, because everyone stares.

Yes.  Stares.  At the blonde headed STAY.AT.HOME.MOM gliding through the city with 2 kids in the back seat of this monster piece of machinery – like I.OWN.THE.WORLD.

I could run over most people with my car.  They may be staring because they are scared I’ll demolish them.  I could.

It’s kind of cool.

Even the guys stare.

Ooooh, does this bug Hubby.  It drives him up the wall.

But they still stare at the ‘Cool Chick’ (Hubby’s words once for a girl riding in a lifted truck) driving the Green Disco with 35” tires.

Oh yea!

Bring it on.

But now that must all end.

It’s hard for these words to come out of my mouth, but I’ve joined the ranks of the minivan clan.

Yes. We bought one.

Photobucket

(this photo is not of our Town and Country, this is courtesy of cyberspace, and ours is white.  We will be picking up our new wheels this weekend).

And strangely enough I’m so E.X.C.I.T.E.D.

Because of how cool it looks?

Um. No.  Really?  Compare the Green Disco to the Town and Country.

It’s not because it looks so cool (although, ours does look pretty cool).  No way.

It’s because my kids no longer have to sit by each other when we’re driving.

Can you say F.R.E.E.D.O.M ???????

They don’t have to touch each other.  They don’t have to look at each other.  They don’t even have to acknowledge they’re in the same car.

No more screaming. Hitting.  Yelling.  Sticking feet in each other’s mouths.  Yes, this happens in my car.  I look back and somehow without  Bella knowing it her feet are in Scout’s face and her toes end up in his mouth while he’s screaming his head off slapping her head the best he can while strapped into his car seat that’s more like a seat in a space shuttle!  And since I can’t reach back far enough and slap them upside the head, we just have to let this sort of behavior happen.

But NOT.ANYMORE!

So, my cool factor may have just gone down a couple notches, but my sanity factor just raised about 10 notches – so I’m all over the minivan ownership!

Hey, this is what happens when you become a parent.

You see things differently.

Much differently!

NOW I NEED YOUR HELP!!!

We need to come up with a name for our new WHITE kid-mobile!  Me and Hubby name our cars (as well as most our material items). We’ve had the Green Disco, Red Rover, Purple Grape – but this one is proving difficult.  Every name I can think of for white is foofy and wimpy.  Cotton Ball.  Marshmallow.  We can’t have that!  Could you please help me come up with a cool name for my new wheels?

When we finally bring it home, I’ll take a photo in front of it and post it for you all to see although I’m sure I won’t look as cool as I do in front of the Green Disco!

*SIGH*

ps…Jerry Bean would have so enjoyed this new car.  He went almost everywhere with me.  It would have been a dream come true – a car with so many places to sit and sleep and oh, all that walking room for him!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my minivan. I don't care how uncool it is, it is fabulous.

How about Quiet Riot? OK, I just dated myself.

The Great White doesn't sound frou-frou at all! :)

I haven't acquiesced to the minivan yet, but that's because Mr. Daddy is still a big fat NO on the second child thing, LOL :)

I have a mini van and I don't want to burst your bubble but my kids feet still reach the other one's mouth--even with captain's seats. :(

I was thinking white lightening too. White Thunder, white shadow...I don't know.
Congrats...that is why I love my mini van. The separation factor. Totally trumps the cool factor.

You could call it the Great White Shark!!! lol

I love our minivan. It may not be the coolest but it's def the most practical!! Lots of space and with our new van there are lots of neat features!

Ha! One of the other interns at the hospital told me a few weeks ago (he's got a 6, 4 and 1 year old) - "One day, that minivan's gonna look sexy". Then went on to tell me how comfortable his is.

One day I'm sure it will happen to me. :)

has been said before, but my vote is for WHITE LIGHTNING (made even better by your refernce to the autobahn)

hmm like great white shark.

other possibilities whitesnake (yes as in the band;), white house, white castle ....

Not uncool at all, twin! Gosh, I'm going to be thinking up names all night. My mom names her cars and she always comes up with something really creative. The kids name ours. Bubba named our Durango 'Sparkly' b/c of the silver flecks in the paint.

Hmmm, maybe 'Jaws' (Going w/the whole Great White theme, and it's kinda scary LOL!) IDK, I'll be back if I think of anything fantastic...

You're so funny!!! I've had 2 minivans over the years and they are the greatest, most functional cars when you have kids! I have an escalade now and it's the only SUV I've had that compares to a van room-wise, but there's barely any room for groceries in the back.

I say you name it White Mocha. ha! Or how about Vanilla Bean? :D

I am a minivan lover! :) welcome to the club! :)

I love Kristin's suggestions and congrats on becoming a minivan mama! I like vanilla bean the most because it would sorta give homage to Jerry and it fits the color of the car! :)

Maybe one day I'll join the ranks of the minivan mamas. For now I'm driving my old 4Runner and having to deal with my kid trying to stick her foot in her sister's mouth, sigh...!

Welcome to the wonderful world of minivan ownership! It's only a little embarrassing, especially if you sprang for tinted windows so nobody can see who's driving. :-)

Say it aint so! No more Rover? I was living vicariously, thank you very much! We just got rid of our white t&c and got a Tahoe. We don't usually name our cars but I've been calling it The Hoe. I will have to think of a good name and get back to you.

Don't hate on minivans, ahaha.. I joined the rank and I'm only 19 & I'm not even a mom yet!! Haha, I drive a white minivan just like the one you are getting! Hahaha, but.. It's not mine. it's my mothers.

I vote naming it Hominy:) Hominy is white and the name is just cool sounding!

I am a van hater too but I am pretty sure I'll get one some day. uuuuugh!

Someone mentioned Great White, and I loved the idea of Vanilla Bean that Kristin suggested!

Good luck finding a name! I want to know what you end up naming it!
